ALAQS- CFD Comparison of Buoyant Free and Wall Turbulent Jets
نویسندگان
چکیده
This report investigates the effects of a solid boundary on the flow properties of a buoyant jet. A comparison was made with the results of a previous ALAQS report on an unbounded jet to highlight the difference jet behaviours. It is believed that the inclusion of the wall represents a further step towards a better understanding of the source dynamics behind an airplane jet engine during the take-off and landing phases. The information provided from these simulations can be used for future improvements of existing dispersion models. Before carrying out such comparison, the turbulent wall jet simulation was validated against existing experimental and analytical results available in the literature for buoyant and non-buoyant conditions. Then, the buoyant case is used to assess the impact of the solid boundary on the fluid mechanics of the jet flow. Numerical Simulation of Free Surface in the Case of Plane Turbulent Wall Jets in Shallow Tailwater
Wall-jet flow is an important flow field in hydraulic engineering, and its applications include flow from the bottom outlet of dams and sluice gates. In this paper, the plane turbulent wall jet in shallow tailwater is simulated by solving the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations using the standard turbulence closure model. This study aims to explore the ability of a time splitting method ...
متن کاملALAQS Comparison of CFD and Lagrangian Dispersion Methods – Simple Scenario during Take-off
This report presents the results of studies on emissions dispersion from an aircraft engine during the take-off phase. Two types of wind configuration were applied to a single and a double jet engine. Results highlight the influence of different parameters on the plume dispersion pattern, and confirm that CFD is an appropriate tool for source dynamics simulations. ALAQS Comparison of CFD and La...
متن کاملInvestigation on Turbulent Nanofluid Flow in Helical Tube in Tube Heat Exchangers
In this study, the thermal characteristics of turbulent nanofluid flow in a helical tube in the tube heat exchanger (HTTHE) were assessed numerically through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. The findings of both the turbulent models: realizable k-epsion (k-ε) and re-normalisation group (RNG) k-epsilon were compared. The temperature distribution contours show that realizable and RN...
متن کاملHeat Transfer under Double Turbulent Pulsating Jets Impinging on a Flat Surface
In this study, the numerical analysis of turbulent flow and heat transfer of double pulsating impinging jets on a flat surface has been investigated. The unsteady two-dimensional numerical solution for two similar and dissimilar jets was performed using the RNG k-ε model. The results showed that the RNG k-ε model has more satisfactory predictions of the Nusselt number distribution. Comparisons ...
